Grup 1993 yılında Los Angles 'da kurulmuştur.Serj Tankian ve Daron Malakian' ın bir stüdyo kaydı sırasında tanışmasıyla grubun temelleri atılmıştır.Grup ermeni kültürüyle metal müziğini birleştirerek ilk singleları olan War ' ı piyasaya sürmüştür.
Grubun son albümleri olan Mezmerize ve Hypnotize bence harika ,parçaları süper üst üste defalarca dinliyorum.Bi parçalarında deli gibi bağırırken , diğerinde birden sakinleşiyolar .Ayrıca singlelarından olan Questions' da müthiş.
